Monaco, the car spotting paradise

You don’t really plan to go car spotting in Monaco. It just happens.
One minute you’re walking through Casino Square, coffee in hand, thinking about lunch. The next, a matte grey Ferrari SF90 rolls past, followed by a classic 911, then something you can’t quite place, but you know it doesn’t belong anywhere else.
That’s Monaco, even outside special events.
You’ll see everything from brand-new hypercars to older classics that feel like they’ve been here longer than the buildings. A well-kept Porsche 356 parked casually outside a hotel often says more than the latest limited-edition release.
And then there are the moments you can’t predict, like an unexpected convoy, a rare spec, something clearly just delivered with its blue temporary Monaco plates.
What makes Monaco unique isn’t just the cars. It’s how close you are to them.
No barriers. No tickets. No paddock passes.

But there’s an understanding here, initially an unspoken one, enforced lately.
In front of the casino and the Hôtel de Paris, privacy isn’t just a courtesy, it is part of the culture. Filming or photographing guests is strictly off-limits, and it is enforced.
Of course, summer brings more cars. Events like the Monaco Grand Prix amplify everything. But the reality is, Monaco doesn’t switch off.
Late afternoon into early evening tends to be the sweet spot. The light softens, the terraces fill up, and the cars start to arrive in waves.
That said, some of the best sightings happen on completely random mornings.
Monaco isn’t a showroom. It’s better than that.
Cars aren’t displayed, they are used. Driven. Parked badly sometimes. Left idling while someone disappears into a meeting that runs longer than expected.
And that’s exactly why it works.
You don’t come here for a perfect shot. You come because, at any moment, something exceptional might just pass you by.
And more often than not, it does!
